TWP Australia Expands into Construction Arena
TWP Australia, an international mining consultancy and Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) specialist, has added multi-disciplinary construction capabilities to its portfolio with the South African construction giant Basil Read Holdings Limited concluding its acquisition of TWP Holdings Limited in December 2009.
According to TWP Australia's Managing Director, Bryan Bailie, this development, along with the Basil Read global strategy to expand internationally, has resulted in the company actively seeking acquisition opportunities within the Australian engineering and construction market, which will significantly enhance Basil Read and TWP Australia's capabilities and Australasian appeal.
Basil Read Holdings Limited is a $1b turnover company with a 57 year history in major bulk earth moving, civil works, services and infrastructure construction (for private and public sector clients), open pit contract mining, industrial and commercial buildings, residential developments, roads and bridge construction, piped services, marine port works and airport construction. Recent projects include the construction of Mbombela stadium in Nelspruit, built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, and the upgrading of the port of Durban in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. TWP Holdings Limited is a US$500m turnover company with 28 years experience in multi-disciplinary engineering design, procurement, project management and construction management services across the mining and minerals value chain, with recent initiatives to venture into oil and gas.
"The 'complete solution' capacity that this acquisition brings to TWP Australia, building on our established reputation in the resources industry in the provision of EPCM services, makes us a serious contender for major engineering design and construction projects in WA and beyond", Mr Bailie said. "The company has an accelerated global expansion strategy currently focusing on the Asia Pacific region and opportunities in the resources sectors, particularly in oil and gas. Further, we are interested in forming strategic relationships with other companies either through Joint Ventures or alliance partnerships whilst seeking design, engineering and construction projects to participate in, "Mr Bailie said".
After a quiet 12 months, which saw contracts such as the high-profile Perseverance Deep Nickel project for BHP Billiton Nickel West postponed and staff numbers cut, the West Perth based company is enthusiastic about the opportunities this acquisition and future acquisitions will bring, Mr Bailie said.
The acquisition brings together the multidisciplinary engineering, design and project management capabilities of TWP and the multidisciplinary construction capabilities of Basil Read to form a fully integrated EPC company with an annual turnover exceeding US$1.25 billion in all industry sectors.
Whilst TWP and Basil Read will continue to grow their core businesses in their respective sectors, the combined capabilities of the entity will afford clients access to the engineering and construction 'complete solution' capability encompassing:
- PPP - Public Private Partnerships where project funding is often part of the service offering
- BOOT - Build, Own, Operate and Transfer
- EPC - Engineer, Procure, Construct
- EPCM - Engineer, Procure and Construction Manage
- Plant, Process and Mine operation
"The TWP client list includes Junior Companies through to the Global Conglomerates, largely as a result of our ability to tailor our services and systems to suit the needs of our clients, affording TWP the flexibility to offer competitively priced services. Further, in addition to being highly flexible, we are able to offer further value to our clients by affording the benefits associated with undertaking engineering design, procurement and fabrication in low cost regions in Asia, "Mr. Bailie said.
