TWP Australia teams up with Gold Fields Australia

TWP Australia is teaming up with Gold Fields Australia to complete a technical and economic review on the Athena Project. Gold Fields Australia has commissioned an independent technical and economic peer review of the in-house study having completed the concept phase for the Athena Project.

The merits of peer reviews as a means to improving project outcomes, particularly when applied to the front end loading stage in the project cycle, has been well documented with both TWP Australia and Gold Fields Australia recognising the value of the process.

This represents the initial stage gate in the FEL process of project delivery for Athena. The project sponsors are to be commended for this approach particularly as this comes earlier rather than later in the project lifecycle, this provides a real opportunity to influence the direction of the project, add value and predictability to the outcome. It also provides for an opportunity to establish a risk profile that can be mitigated in the next feasibility phase of the project.

The two key objectives of the independent review of the concept study is to provide a consolidated view of the robustness of the project (will it work and deliver on the anticipated returns) and secondly will it achieve scheduled completion or delivery on promises. The intention is to provide the project team and the sponsors with a risk/opportunity register on which they can formulate a response plan for the remaining development and execution of the project. There is also a need to evaluate the level of compliance with study guidelines and industry best practice where these are absent.

TWP Australia is well placed to complete the Peer Review on the Athena Project.
