About Us
TWP was founded in 1982 in Johannesburg, South Africa by the current CEO Nigel Townshend. TWP grew from a small group of engineering consultants to a company providing Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services. TWP currently employs in excess of 1500 consultants, engineers and technicians.
In December 2009 TWP added multi-disciplinary construction capabilities to its EPCM service offering with the South African construction giant Basil Read Holdings Limited concluding its acquisition of TWP Holdings Limited.
Basil Read Holdings Limited was founded in 1952 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company specialises in major bulk earth moving, civil works, services and infrastructure construction (for private and public sector clients), open pit contract mining, industrial and commercial buildings, residential developments, roads and bridge construction, piped services, marine port works and airport construction.
The acquisition brings together the multidisciplinary engineering, design and project management capabilities of TWP and the multidisciplinary construction capabilities of Basil Read to form a fully integrated EPC company with a current annual turnover exceeding US$1.5 billion.
Whilst TWP and Basil Read will continue to grow their core businesses in their respective sectors, the combined capabilities of the entity will afford clients access to the engineering and construction 'complete solution' capability encompassing:
- PPP - Public Private Partnerships where project funding is often part of the service offering
- BOOT - Build, Own, Operate and Transfer
- EPC - Engineer, Procure, Construct
- EPCM - Engineer, Procure, Construct
- Plant, Process and Mine Operation
